How to Draw a Tractor: A Step-by-Step Guide for Kids

A tractor is really just three shapes once you break it down: two wheel circles, a body rectangle, and a boxy cab — everything else is detail on top. Grab a pencil and follow along.

What you'll need

Paper, a pencil, an eraser, and markers or crayons if you want to color it in at the end.

Step by step

  1. Draw the back wheel. Start with one big circle, low on your page. This is the tractor's back wheel — on a real tractor it's always the biggest wheel.
  2. Draw the front wheel. Add a smaller circle to the right of it. Line its bottom up with the top of the back wheel — front wheels sit higher off the ground.
  3. Connect them with the body. Draw a rectangle across the top of both wheels to make the tractor's main body.
  4. Add the cab. Draw a boxy shape on the back-top of the body, with a small square window in it — that's where the driver sits.
  5. Add the engine hood. Draw a rectangle sloping down from the cab toward the front wheel.
  6. Add the exhaust pipe. Draw a thin, tall rectangle sticking straight up near the hood. Add a little curved line above it for smoke if you'd like.
  7. Add the details and color. Draw a few lines around the big back wheel for the tread pattern, then color it in — green and yellow or red are classic tractor colors, but any color works.

Make it your own

Once you've got the basic shape, try adding a trailer behind it (see our Farming Simulator drawing guide for that), or draw a little farmer in the cab window.

We're working on a printable drawing book with pages just like this one — tractors, farm equipment, and more. Join our list and we'll email you the moment it's ready. In the meantime, check out our kids' own original art on Kid-Art Prints and stickers.
